Actionscript, my beloved
Generated with ai because I also didn’t watch lol:
The site also has an active Discord community of around 35k members, who actively participate in discussions, art competitions, even a chess tournament.
lulz, but this is probably a big reason why this happened, discord servers pay our pretty well and profiting with this stuff probably got some legal teams a little pissy
IIRC this is how those Elon musk crypto livestream hacks worked on YouTube back in the day, I think the bad actors got a hold of cached session tokens and gave themselves access to whatever account they were targeting. Linus Tech Tips had a good bit in a WAN show episode
I hate how YouTube seems to intentionally show salacious ads if you opt out of ad personalization. I get a ton of Temu spam despite not purchasing anything from that app or even having it on my phone, and the ads themselves usually feature scantily-clad women that takes up 70% of the screen. I’ve made a habit of just opening up the comments section and keeping them open the entire duration of the video. It really feels like YouTube/Google/Alphabet is saying “oh, you don’t want people around you to think you’re a perv? Let us collect more data about you so you can save face in public when you use our app at the gym or at work.”
No prob! I think Ars Technica had the best writeup imo: https://arstechnica.com/security/2024/04/what-we-know-about-the-xz-utils-backdoor-that-almost-infected-the-world/
In a nutshell, a backdoor was intentionally planted by a malicious actor in xz Utils, an open-source data compression utility widely used in Linux and other Unix-like operating systems. This discovery was made by Andres Freund, a developer and engineer working on Microsoft’s PostgreSQL offerings. He was troubleshooting performance problems on a Debian system. Specifically, SSH logins were consuming excessive CPU cycles and generating errors with Valgrind, a memory debugging tool. Through sheer luck and Freund’s careful eye, he eventually discovered that these issues were the result of updates made to xz Utils. Upon closer inspection, he found that updates to xz Utils were the result of a maliciously inserted backdoor. The backdoor, present in xz Utils versions 5.6.0 and 5.6.1, manipulated the sshd executable, allowing anyone with a predetermined encryption key to upload and execute arbitrary code on affected devices.
"I like the business model of ‘I want money so I make something that I think is worth money, and you pay me that money and you get the thing, and we’re all happy’,” Szymanski continued. “That’s it. There’s nothing complicated or hidden here.
Lmao I love it, gonna get this game now
And to be fair, that whole narwhal bacon thing was a weird fad of internet culture as a whole, not just on Reddit (think pre-2014 internet imo)
The unsealed court order wasn’t just fishing for a list of vague identifiers that could be winnowed down to a list of suspects and a follow-up warrant demanding actual identifying information on these ~30,000 YouTube users. No, it appears the feds led with the big ask, demanding names, addresses, phone numbers, and user activity for every viewer of these videos between January 1-8, 2023. AND(!!) it asked Google to provide IP addresses for all viewers who were not logged into (or did not possess) Google accounts.
That’s fucked
If this ever goes to court I doubt Reddit wants to open this can of worms, as well as every other social media company lol
Just out of curiosity do you have any examples of quirks or annoyances that you found to be especially egregious? If you can’t share due to NDA no worries
Getting evicted. I don’t do anything wrong or break my lease in my apartment, and have never had a complaint against me but for whatever reason I get super freaked out when someone knocks on my door. Even if it’s just a delivery driver.
I remember one time I actually called off sick at work because I saw my landlord on my ring doorbell tape something to my door and I was literally worried sick. Started thinking I had to start looking for another place.
Turns out it was just a notice saying that they were going to give residents a free fire extinguisher in the coming days. All that panic for nothing.
Nintendo should sue Microsoft for providing an operating system that people use to pirate digital goods. Maybe IBM too for creating the mouse to lower the barrier to piracy?
kill cry > blacklisted word on whatever I was trying to sign up for originally > jumbling intensifies > kryllic
I think, based on your description.
If your dreams are like Deadpool, where he is aware he’s in a comic and likewise you’re aware you’re in a dream I would say that’s technically lucid dreaming, and you can technically “control” your dream, to an extent.
If, however, you’re viewing yourself in your dream but from the perspective of others, that’s second person pov. There’s a really cool video about what that would look like in a video game: https://youtu.be/mC8QoRa8y_Q?si=9TJdB7md7f1h9Okq

Found the lucid dreamer
Sorry about that, the wayback machine didn’t have a version without the paywall unfortunately :/
