Doing it for personal use, without profit or gain, is supposedly illegal. Doing it for profit certainly appears to be legal.

It’s really shocking to me, from the US, that this is a compulsory fee and not a tax. It’s like they want people to hate and resent it. I guess it hurts poor people? IDK.

I’d still go with proton over Google. Google is also on board with fascism. Maybe not as enthusiastic about it but I’m not sure that’s a difference.

That’s naive. I’m not ditching proton yet, personally, but this does shake my confidence in them.

The Biden government was targeting them, though. Kind of. Various companies were facing challenges from the administration. I think the difference is: If they suck Trump’s dick enough he’ll leave them alone. Biden was less likely to do that. Or probably that’s their view of it, anyway. Somehow big business seems to view Trump as a “rational actor” while they view Biden as the opposite.

Technically they didn’t fully rescind it. They rescinded it in some places but not others, and for some patients but not others. It’s just PR, they have no intention of actually changing things.

Elections were the deal. We’d vote for representatives and abide by their decisions rather than, y’know, killing people in the streets to change society.

When elections can’t change society, though. When the deal is broken, it’s back to the old ways.
