Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Homebrew, de facto standard package manager for macOS, now forces Apple's $99/yr notarization bullshit for all casks.English
3·20 hours agoIt’s crazy how bad software compatibility on macos is. I used to assume it was about the same or slightly better than linux in that regard, but my attempts to help my friend play games on macos have almost entirely failed despite the fact that I have tons of experience playing games on linux since it’s always been my main os

8·4 days agoYou could make the world’s worst computer cluster, that could be fun. I think there are several open source tools for doing clustering

5·1 month agoYeah, only time it becomes inconvenient is if you want to use a paid app

20·1 month agoYou can use Aurora Store, it’s an open source client for the play store. Just probably don’t sign into it with your real google account since it violates the play store tos

26·1 month agoYeah krita definitely isn’t the right tool for bulk jobs. You might want to look into learning to use imagemagick’s command line tools, they’re pretty much the gold standard for bulk image tasks
Isn’t it partially closed source though?

3·3 months agoI’m not aware of a modern browser that doesn’t render it by default. I meant a real browser as in a browser not a lemmy client

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do you love the look of despite it being impractical, uncomfortable, or high maintenance?
6·3 months agoYeah that’s very high on my list of things to do once I have more money. Hopefully my hair is dark enough for it to work

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do you love the look of despite it being impractical, uncomfortable, or high maintenance?
331·3 months agoShaved legs, there’s literally no practical benefit and it’s so much effort but even if I wear long pants just having the knowledge I haven’t shaved makes me so uncomfortable.
I think the best thing to do is to not block them when they’re detected but poison them instead. Feed them tons of text generated by tiny old language models, it’s harder to detect and also messes up their training and makes the models less reliable. Of course you would want to do that on a separate server so it doesn’t slow down real users, but you probably don’t need much power since the scrapers probably don’t really care about the speed

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If you were in a room with your own pet and 99 identical pets, how would you pick out your pet (aside from calling their name)?
3·4 months agoSit down and try to eat a snack. The cat that ends up about 2 inches in front of my face purring while trying to steal my food and gnaw on my nose is mine
All I know about north korea is that a student from my university went there, was arrested for stealing a poster, and was never seen alive again. But I suppose that’s a lie, the people who went with him must have lied to the media, or maybe every media agency that covered it lied. Surely that’s more believable

4·5 months agoIndustria, I really really love it but it turns out it’s not particularly well reviewed. I’ve always wanted a game that felt like Simon Stålenhag’s paintings and that game is actually specifically inspired by his work.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•I hate Samsung and their dumb software design choices, and this is one of them. Why do I need a SIM card to enable a hotspot whereas every other phone works without one?English
9·5 months agoI’ve only seen that option on phones with two radios, it uses the 2.4GHz radio for one connection and the 5GHz radio for the other
