I know I cannot win this one, but on my last attempt to reason with them, I asked for a list of allowed domains…

Sucks to see something go this way. Recently I was forced to flash stock ROM on an older phone to be able to use revolut, because they cracked down on custom firmwares…
Oh, the good ol’ T&C violation, of course not saying which part… vinted is smashing hard on people not using big tech solutions.
You practically either have the option to use your “subdomain” e.g. [email protected] or if you are fine with random characters, then you can have an address on the main domain e.g. [email protected]. Unfortunately this is not the first provider I see only accepting big tech addresses/accounts…
My guess is that the agents answering are also not shared any information why some domains are blocked. I would also think that they have no idea what a domain is. Not the chatbots that answered the first couple of mails. :D
The idea is that is it more “real” than the other social media apps, because you cannot prepare your best self for the photo and not necessarily the best memory of that day will be recorded. Reality is that most people (maybe all people) have a relatively boring life (it’s not everyday that something worthy of attention happens) and there is not much value in sharing e.g. your lunch. Most people had it that day and yours was also not that extraordinary.
Unfortunately since facebook (maybe instagram topped it) everyone may have their own tabloid platform to share their everyday life as celebrities do on tabloids and people seem to love it.
Not to mention the huge privacy concern that you post of a photo everyday, which may include your location, definitely your face and other useful information that may be used to hurt or annoy you in some way.
ritchie@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What was the craziest cartoon(s) you saw whilst a kid?2·9 months agoHere they aired it at night, when not much else was there to watch. In my teenage years I was always hoping for some kind of erotic scene, but I was only left with confusion and switched the channel.

ritchie@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the latest gadget or tech that you regret buying?1·11 months agoIt depends what you’re using it for. If you aren’t using it to track your sports activity, it is not that useful. Maybe the notifications are useful. I really enjoy tracking my steps and knowing if I should be more active. I use gadgetbridge, so that my data stays on my phone.
ritchie@lemmy.worldto Privacy@lemmy.ml•Finally got rid of telegram, congratulations to me21·1 year agoIt is not considered a good alternative as a messaging app for privacy folks and because the source code is not open, it is not E2E encrypted by default (you need to start a secret chat or something to make your conversation encrypted) if I remember correctly.
I am using a deGoogled phone and also doing browser separation, I only use google in chromium, never for searching stuff. I was talking about getting an electric toothbrush and my wife googled a big brand to check the price (she does not care about privacy). About 10 minutes later ad blocking was not working for some reason and I starter getting toothbrush ads. I would say it knew somehow that we were in the same household and targeted us both.
I always ask if they have a curtain. Why have one, when you have nothing to hide? It blocks the view, sunlight…
And there’s when you spend 20 minutes composing your argument, then you decide to delete it, because “It’s not worth it.”
There’s the info you are willingly sharing through the app, no permission for that. There are really a few apps that require no permissions, usually they always need access to something. E.g. the LG app for washing machines that will only run if you register and account AND give permission to make phone calls, when you only want to download washing programs…
Most of us would probably just be fine with PWAs, but the marketing branch says no… They need everything possible about you, need the app to run at startup and send you notifications at least every 4 hours…
Most probably true. It is sad though that they are not straightforward about it so that they send a list of domains they like.
