And the difference there is that Vanced didn’t have capital behind it while Grayjay does. Futo can fight Google in court, Vanced couldn’t. Even if a company has no legal ground to stand on, they can still fuck you financially with legal fees and a drawn out case.
Unless they were to stick a TOS, usage agreement, or API key requirement on Innertube then anyone’s free to use it however they like. Legally, Grayjay is in the clear here. And practically they’re fine as well since altering Innertube to block Grayjay would mean that Google would have to alter their in house processes and that costs money.
Rossmann and Futo have explicitly stated that purchasing their soft is a purchase, not a donation.
Furthermore, Grayjay does not use the Youtube API and so Google has no ground to stand on.

Tbh I see this as a problem. For instance, I’ve been considering going into politics and one of my main concerns is the security of our government’s information. Right now the Americans could have a direct line of access to all of our doings simply because we use Windows. Not to mention there’s the matter of Recall which, while not implemented in Windows 10, will likely be included when the government switches from Windows 10. That itself is a huge security risk. So the only options are to implement an existing Linux distro or to fork and maintain one specifically for the government. And that would be all well and good if it didn’t require retraining every government employee to use Linux.
I’m not entirely certain about that. For instance, on Linux I always have to look up how to create symlinks even though I’ve been using the OS exclusively for three years. On Windows, it is: Right click -> Create shortcut. It’s easier for most people to remember a 2 action process than a console command with multiple options and specific syntax. But of course, this is only one example and doesn’t apply to everything. For instance, I have absolutely no trouble remembering mkdir, cp, or rm. I think it’s a bit of a mixed bag.
The borderless UI is so good, honestly. Do you know if there’s a way to alter the player control UI? Am wanting to get into ricing and that looks like it provides a great solution for some minimalist ideas I’m having.
Yeah, just OSS. Which is fine by me, frankly. In a capitalist system there are very few ways to make FOSS soft compete with closed source/proprietary. One way is to convince people to buy the soft. Another is to get industry funding. Blender is one of the best examples of this. But Grayjay can’t use the Blender model because the biggest player in the industry (Youtube) has a vested interest in keeping the app from being developed.

All LLMs are based on neural networks. Furthermore, all neural networks need training, regardless of whether they’re an LLM or some other form of machine learning. If you want to ensure there’s no stolen material used in the neural net then you have to train it yourself with material that you have the copyright to.
Really? I only ever have trouble with non-Steam games. Make sure you’re setting the compatibility to Proton rather than the Linux Runtime since it often works better. I know if I try to play native Linux games I lose my cursor. Can I ask what hardware you’re using?

I wouldn’t call it worse than renewables. It’s a sidegrade from coal burning. Where I’m from, solar is non-viable 6 months of the year. Wind is theoretically viable year-round but in reality it’s less than that due to cold snaps and the intermittent nature of wind. And there’s no way that wind power alone could provide enough power even when running at 100%. There are no viable rivers here for hydro either. Geothermal is nigh impossible here as well. So without a reliable back-up power source, everyone here would be experiencing brown outs on a fully renewable system. Many wouldn’t receive power at all due to a significant rural population and the challenges inherent to it (and forcing people into cities is not a viable option). So the only options are fossil fuels and nuclear. Given that we’re killing everything with the former, I would much prefer we give the latter a go.
Aside from flattening a city, what exactly would you do with nuclear technology? How do you think we could capture the energy from fission without boiling water?
