Not enough niche communities. Like, not even close. Example: there are communities for general Android or general gaming, but not one for Android gaming or mobile gaming.
-
Harder than Reddit to sign up. There’s an extra step which is instances. So first you gotta understand what instances are, how they work, and which one is suitable for you.

Reddit is still doing fine, or at least not bad enough for the masses to care about jumping over to Lemmy

In case anyone is curious, this is my new account in a different instance (tchncs), which keeps the same old username/profile pic. My previous account (lemm.ee) was lost in the lemm.ee shutdown and, since I was offline due to traveling, I couldn’t migrate. I was able, however, to recover my two lists of games.
The lists are now here:

char_stats@discuss.tchncs.deto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Should there be cameras in the cockpit of airplanes? Why or Why Not?11·14 days agoYes, 100%. Storage shouldn’t be a problem in this day and age on multi-million dollar vehicles. And the privacy issue could be worked around too, like video recordings only accessible offline or upon pilots consent, unless there’s an accident and it’s requested by the investigators. I might be ignorant with this, but I don’t see the problem really.
char_stats@discuss.tchncs.deto Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Noob question: How do you ensure that large executable files, such as .apks (different from apk), are safe?English25·20 days agoBy making sure (as much as you possibly could) the source you got it from is safe.
You’ll reduce the risk.
Yep! I wasn’t justifying them.
I might be wrong, but I believe ONE OF the reasons why American police is so shitty is because every citizen might be—and often is—carrying a gun. This causes stress in the police force, higher chances of casualties among them as compared to other countries, so it builds feelings of fear and “acting first, asking later” in most situations.
Sure, many of them are also power-tripping assholes on top of that.

I’m a kindergarten teacher.

I describe what we’ve done in class, and it turns that into a short caption for the school’s daily social media post. Saves a bit of time.

For weekly assessments, I speak freely about each child’s week, and it generates a well-written comment. That’s a moderate time-saver, and I learn better phrasing from its output as I’m a non-native English speaker.
-
It helps me brainstorm new daily activity ideas based on specific goals or parameters. I choose the ones that fit and tweak them as needed.
-
When I’ve tried multiple strategies with a difficult child, I use it to get fresh suggestions for guidance or behavior management. I still apply my own experience to decide what works best.
-
It helped me plan a trip based on location, time, and several other factors—and it provided a lot of useful details I hadn’t considered.
-
It’s replaced Google for many tasks: it’s faster, often more accurate (if prompted clearly), and definitely more efficient for basic info.
-
I also use it for translation, and in many cases, it gives better or more natural results than Google Translate.
-
It helped me rewriting this very comment (till point 7) as I’m busy with something else so I saved time spellchecking and rephrasing.

Obviously [email protected] because it’s the one with more engagement (most monthly users and most comments).
I don’t think that’s a problem really, and it isn’t much different from Reddit anyways. Have you see how many anime subreddits there are? You can scroll the list for hours. The ones with most engagement thrive, the other ones will be forgotten.
