brognak@lemm.eeto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What were you surprised to learn wasn't actually normal?9·3 months agoI do something similar to the clothing thing but with buildings. Like if I see an old run down store I think about if that was someone’s dream to run and it just didn’t work, or they retired and it fell apart. I develop weird empathy for buildings doing this 😅

Seems like a good company all around. Except their Return to Office was asinine (if you were within ~100mi of their Boston HQ you had to return to office. One hundred fucking miles.)

There’s also Anubis, but it uses proof of work not a maze.

That’s actually a fascinating idea. All interstellar travel is based on the movements of the planets through space time. I bet it alternates between being technically faster and slower than FTL travel since you may have to wait for a time when your destination to pass into the planets past location.
Wow that’s a fun thought hole. Constraint certainly breeds creativity!

2015 Ford Focus ST
Traded in my 11 WRX for it after Subaru tried to dick me around on a warranty claim. It’s got 128k on it now and it’s been rock fuckin solid dependable outside of the gas tank sucking itself inside out lol. Ford handled that.

brognak@lemm.eeto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is the most painful thing you've experienced ?6·11 months agoI had major gallstone attacks a couple times a week for like 6-8 months before I finally drove myself to the ER at 2am after being woken by one. Was in surgery 3hrs later.
Was utterly excruciating pain in your abdomen, and it just grows and grows and grows, and lasts from 20minutes to over an hour. Nothing ever touched the pain either, and my PCP misdiagnosed it as extreme acid reflux and had me on Prilosec for months.
0/10, do not recommend. Plus not having a gallbladder kinda sucks ass.
brognak@lemm.eeto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•What self hosting feels like (It's painful, please help 🥲)English9·11 months agoIn elemental school we had to write instructions on how to make a pb&j sandwich. The teacher then acted out your instructions literally, without adding or removing a step. I don’t think there was a single sandwich made that day.

https://www.neowin.net/news/crowdstrike-broke-debian-and-rocky-linux-months-ago-but-no-one-noticed/
This was in no way a Windows problem, this was entirely a CrowdStrike problem. Claiming otherwise makes you look like an uninformed moron.

The worst part was, imo, it was really good. Like sure, my phone does voice commands but they work like 1/5 times. Car Thing worked nearly 100%, responded to anyone in the cars voice (pro/con depending on situation lol), and was a nice display for my preAndroidAuto headunit. Honestly I think the biggest mistake was that it was tied to a car, I used it on my desk for a while as a dedicated music control surface and it worked well. If more time went into making it just a universal Spotify controller it would have been much better as a thing. Have it mounted next to your receiver, or slap a battery in it and put it on a coffee table during a party and that would have been cool AF and requires zero phone interactions.

My S22 had like a few Samsung apps, they live in a folder and I never see them. But that is similar to all of the Apple apps you couldn’t remove either (don’t know if that’s changed, haven’t had an iPhone since the 4)
Man, I am 38. When I was in highschool I was in an alternative curriculum Math program called IMP, and it is/was literally what your talking about.
Instead of memorizing equations we were instead given a hypothetical situation and learned to solve it socratically both through conversations as a class with the teacher, and in small groups to try and figure out how to solve it. It made me love math so much I almost made it my life, it was literally everything I needed as a severely ADHD teen. Everything was a puzzle to be solved, and when you solved it you gained not just knowledge, but the perspective to know where the knowledge applies.
