Very good idea. I could skip the tank and have a sign saying “This e-bike battery may explode on contact. Hit me and we’ll find out together”

This is exactly my experience when taking my child to school on the bike. I’ve literally seen every issue and had people saying we shouldn’t be on the road from their unnecessarily massive car, with one kid in, parking on the no parking areas and hitting 40 on the school street beforehand where we have roughly 900 children at the primary school (ages 4 to 11), so not like they should be careful or anything with their killing machines…

brewery@feddit.ukto United Kingdom@feddit.uk•The UK failed grooming gang victims by not seeing ‘children as children’English151·15 天前It was more of a class and misogyny problem, which due to cultural reasons these groups of men were able to take advantage. There’s a story of police being called to a disturbance and found a group of older guys (mostly south Asian but there was a white guy too) with two teenage (I think about 15) drunk, working class girls. Instead of stepping back and thinking there’s something very strange going on here and seeing those girls as victims, who were vulnerable, potentially being groomed and obviously being taken advantage of, they arrested the girls for drunk and disorderly, were apologetic to the men and didn’t even record the names of those men.
Statistically in the UK, most grooming and sexual violence is some by family members or family friends, against both boys and girls, and are perpetrated by white people simply because the UK is still 83% white! If any of these people truly cared about vulnerable children, they would focus on more than just these grooming gangs but that doesn’t rile up their base, get more likes and give them more support. Yeah, these horrible men need to be arrested and put away but let’s set up systems that try to prevent these children being harmed in the first place.
This article is talking about the wider problems of children not being seen as victims, and agencies not communicating with each other. Whether it’s a black boy arrested for carrying drugs or a white girl ignored as being “promiscuous”, there are systemic issues in our system that need to be addressed.
brewery@feddit.ukto UK Politics@feddit.uk•UK plans $2bn weapons upgrade as Starmer calls for ‘war readiness’411·1 个月前As much as I hate the austerity cuts across the board. I believe this is a good idea as long as the money stays in the UK and has proper procurement rules, which I would trust labour to do better than the Tories, and can’t see Reform or Greens being as good.
It would lead to growth as a lot of that money would go to wages of UK employees and come back as taxes. Plus we need to be realistic about not relying on the US. We have strong university education and should build back up our engineering sectors.
Honestly, it’s so much better. The main roads are clogged up but can see no difference to before with those, they were always bad. I haven’t seen any difference in driving times. Our road is so much quieter so seen kids playing on the street (not often at all but the roads are still setup for cars of residents), and the drop constant noise that I didn’t notice until it had gone.
I think the next step should be to flip from it being a road with a small pavement to a shared communal area with priority for people, space for kids to play properly and actual green space. There could still be enough road to get to houses and car spaces. When the road was closed for that jubilee party it was so nice! Saw way more of my neighbours and all the kids were out playing together. Can’t see it happening though…

Why wouldn’t you want to live and work in the state with healthcare if it actually works out cheaper for you and less risky? It’s a completely false economy to live in the other state with no healthcare but have to pay high insurance rates and have high deductibles?
I don’t even know what these are, what am I missing out on?

I had a lot more luck with https://github.com/evan-buss/openbooks but it’s completely manual. I make a note of books I come across and then every few weeks manually search on here and add the downloads to a calibre monitored folder.

Will only record future shows but tbh, a lot gets repeated on their other channels (https://www.channel4.com/tv-guide).
Using a VPN is another option but I recently couldnt load the app while using a lesser known VPN from within the UK so they seem hot on blocking them.
Another option is rent a cheap VPS from in the UK to act as your own VPN.
All of their shows is on their app, and they have a pretty cheap ad free option if you can figure that out too.

I’m doing a part time course at a UK university and they gave it for free, I just had to register using my university email address. I’ve not taken it up as want to avoid it in favour of libreoffice but will use for coursework on a VM if I really need to.

Do you physically have access to the router? If so, I would figure out the settings it uses that other people notice (wifi settings etc) and just hard reset it. Chances are they just use the basic settings provided anyway.
Is anybody else using the router or just you? If just you, I’d just do what you want to it and reset it when you leave.
brewery@feddit.ukto Casual UK@feddit.uk•Must be taking a break from the next Avatar film...English1·2 年前Yeah that is a fair point counter to what I said about Truss and yeah, I also forgot to add austerity to the Cameron list! He still ends up on top in my view.
I guess you could argue the Ukraine war for heating costs and brexit is the ultimate problem for higher interest rates but Truss definitely caused the spike and expanded the issues to make them much worse, much more quickly. I retract the mostly receded point.
Their choice to spread the cost of the financial crisis amongst the whole country and including the vulnerable was the worst decision ever (assuming you care about the British public I guess…), Brexit then helped to keep us down and have nothing left when covid happened. Even the UN envoys on poverty are saying that about austerity being done in a tragic way.
brewery@feddit.ukto Casual UK@feddit.uk•Must be taking a break from the next Avatar film...English2·2 年前Absolutely agreed. I think the ability of the person, their morals and their impact are important but long term consequences have to play a major role.
Trusses’ impacts were immediate and large but have mostly receded. She wasn’t around long enough to do any real damage and she’s still out there garnering support from the same crazy fuckheads in the first place so no real changes there. They’ll just put up someone else instead.
Johnson was by far the worst individual but the damage was relatively small because of how incompetent he was and in fact, he highlighted a lot of issues that will hopefully change for the better now. If another evil politician turns up and makes use of those but is actually competent, they’ll go number one with Bojo number 2. Anybody would’ve struggled with covid and although he made it worse, I think other institutions lessened the impact somewhat.
Blair has the Iraq war, impact on Middle East and the start of the British fall in international relations, which probably puts him pretty high but I think some of the other stuff (e.g. making the BoE independent) probably does just enough to and him.
Brown was in power for too little of a time really but was instrumental in Blair’s got so takes some of that heat.
A lot of the country would argue Thatcher should be up there. Her policies continue to have much support in the Tories and some parts of other parties. Definitely a contender.
Brexit has had the worst impacts on every part of our lives and will continue to do so for quite some time. It’s also messed up NI, Ireland and the EU itself has suffered from it too. Cameron caused it and then jumped ship because he couldn’t help or wasn’t willing to, and either way is pretty bad. He has my vote for sure. No other single politic move has caused such a large negative impact.

In fact, I was shocked last time how crap the Google results were, just full of AI generated crap and SEO based crap.
To be honest, DDG is also struggling with that now as it’s based on Bing. I have been trying a public searxg but not found it very good so far.
