There was an article today that a bunch of top brains from Intel jumped ship and are going to work on RISC-V, and the Chinese government has an interest to further an architecture independent of X86 and ARM.

But those works will take a few years before they can be considered alternatives to ARM or even X86, even if they throw in loads of man-years.

I’d love to at work, but I’m using some win-only software with a f-ed up licence manager that I cannot stuff into a VM.

So I could have a usable machine at work? Good. I am forced to upgrade from win7 to win11 in the lab, and current win11 crap did not appeal to me at all. And it has WSL, so at least it can actually be used for work.

Well, the refresh rate is due to the e-ink technology. There is still a mechanical component to it, so what you can experience today is actually blazingly fast.

The other part is that having the display glass itself is not enough. You’ll need a driver chip. And one that drives an e-ink display fast is neither easy nor cheap.

And he uses loads of butter for his scrambled eggs. And they are wonderful!

How much of a stretch? With steam you might be able to add a few(!) centimeters to the hat size, but no miracles. Overstretching will rip it.
