Yeah I usually like the Google boxes in search results, but this is so excessive. Everything after and including the polls is just completely unnecessary

Sideloading is quite bad. If you’re in the EU, I know you can use AltStore PAL, which costs money (~€1.50 a year), but all you’ll be getting is emulators, virtual machines, clipboard managers, and torrent clients.
There is another method for sideloading that works anywhere and lets you download modified apps, but it is very limited, tedious, and probably insecure. I’ve done it, it’s not worth it. Better to stay on android or use a browser with adblock or something.
I don’t think iOS has any specific limits to do with NSFW stuff, I’ve never heard of anything anyways.
Pirating games is probably not going to be worth it either since you have to sideload apps with the second method.
Other types of piracy are probably fine. If you have AltStore PAL you can get a torrent client and an emulator.
Microsoft was claiming that the data would be inaccessible to hackers (which is not true).
Signal claimed the exact opposite: that once it’s on your computer, messages can be seen by malicious programs on your computer.
Signal was caught having less than ideal security. Microsoft was caught lying.
You can only do that for your own messages though. I’m guessing the messages from the prostitutes would be more than enough for the wife to notice.
Also I think the window is longer than 3 hours. Maybe a day?
Signal also has a similar problem. If you choose the “delete for me” option, it only deletes it on one device and leaves it on the others, last time I checked.
He would have to set up disappearing messages aswell.
Doesn’t necessarily have to be the same. Afaik the signal protocol is for sending messages, not for transferring backups of chats.
Whatsapp actually lets you back up all your chats, unencrypted, to Google Drive or iCloud. Definitely not the same as Signal.
Threads isn’t federated yet. It’ll be a while before fediverse accounts can be seen on threads
There are ads on the app store, which I’d consider to be part of the “primary operating system”, especially since it’s the only way to install apps.
Not to mention constant ads for icloud. In the photos app, and even notifications from the settings app. (It’s possible to turn these off, but not easy or intuitive).
After switching to Android, I haven’t seen a single ad in the operating system, (I think Play Store does have ads, I just haven’t got any for some reason). The closest thing is Google photos sometimes asking me to turn on backup.
It’s acting up, so the feed doesn’t work, but if you go to the profile of someone you already subscribed to you can kinda see their posts? It’s weird
See what? Posts from threads? Depends on your instance and how you browse.
Lemmy has no microblogging features so you won’t be seeing any (unless they’re specifically posting to Lemmy)
Kbin I’m not too sure since there are microblogging features but idk how they work.
Mastodon; you will see posts from threads users if you follow them, or if someone you follow boosts a post from them.
If you browse by the explore/posts tab, you might see some threads posts. Also from the ‘All’/federated tab.
You’ll be able to block threads for your account, or choose an instance that’s defederated.
I always used it when I had one.
Now, I use an adapter for headphone jack to USB-C. Every day.
I don’t agree at all here. If someone on threads has posts you like, you can follow them. If not, you won’t see any posts from threads on your feed.
Your feed will either be the same as before, or better than before.
What do you mean discovery feeds? Like the federated/all tab?
Because those feeds only show posts that the instance knows about, which is (mostly) posts from people that at least one person on your instance followed.
If you check the all tab on a small instance, it’s a lot quieter than it is on something like mastodon.social.
For F-Droid in specific, you’ll need an F-Droid client. I use Droid-ify (GitHub) (F-Droid) (IzzyOnDroid), but you can use whichever you prefer. F-Droid is a good source for open source apps.
If you’re sideloading from different sources, Obtanium (GitHub) (IzzyOnDroid) is useful to download apps, and keep them updated. You can even kinda use it as an F-Droid client.
Google is pretty lax on what it allows on Google play, so unless you’re trying to avoid using Google services or you want to install apps that aren’t on the play store, you don’t need to do it.
If you want adbocking and extra features in some apps (especially YouTube), check out ReVanced.
Google isn’t lying - there are risks to sideloading if you don’t know what you’re doing. Make sure what you’re downloading is coming from legitimate sources you trust. For example, if you look up ReVanced, some unofficial websites show up which may have malware. Triple check everything is coming from an official source.
One of my best friends
pass my controller to one of my friends
I have fennec f - droid and can’t find how to download them easily. What fork are you using?
Mastodon doesn’t actually have communities built in, so if you want to post in a Lemmy community you have to @ the community. (That means that there’s a decent chance this post was an accident, since linking to a community and posting to a community is the same on mastodon)
Sub.rehab stopped letting people add new communities. What’s up with that?
Why do you say it doesn’t feel the same between instances? The only problem I’ve seen is subscriber counts not federating.
Forest is a simple step counter that shows you the steps you did today, with a little extra info.
Doable is a tasks/reminders app. It’s not the most feature rich, and notifications are only in beta, but I love the design and it does what I need well.
Data Monitor shows you how much data you’ve used in your current plan, and you can see which apps use the most data (or wifi).
Quillpad for notes.
LibreOffice Viewer lets you open word documents and the like.
Squawker lets you open Twitter links more privately, and even follow users to see all of their posts, but requires you log in with an account.
Breezy Weather is a really nice weather app.
