most people are against you (them)
That has not been my experience, but it’s subjective right? I live in a conservative area. So also generally pro our current law enforcement system.

I wonder if they ever really have? When I was in school they taught you how to use a computer, but not what the computer was doing or how it worked.
I’m not too connected to the educational sector anymore but anecdotally it seems like becoming tech literate has a growing stigma (it’s always had a stigma). Happily ignoring what it’s doing while it’s actively abusing you.
What kind of problems? I use syncthing, curious if your past issues might be my future ones.
I can’t argue with that!
I enjoyed the all too accurate description.
I get that it’s probably a joke. But I would absolutely go out of my way to get small bills to buy basic grilled sandwiches from this person complete with, what I assume, is barely hospitable service.
I feel like that’s kind of a hipster thing? I don’t care for the label, but I can’t argue it sometimes fits.
Water cooling feels unnecessary and expensive. Like most of my hobbies. I don’t get this particular one, but I can appreciate why people might.
I appreciate what he’s done for the FOSS movement.
I’ve read up his commentary about underage women, choosing to form my own opinion. And yeah I find it pretty gross.
Random article I found said about 26% of people in the US use adblocking services. Working on the assumption that’s reasonably accurate, that’s a pretty big chunk of ad revenue.
I’ll go research that, thanks for the heads up!
Ironically/coincidentally – Can I blame Alannis Morisette for my lack of understanding of the differences? – I watched “V For Vendetta” recently. Nov. 5th and all.
In it (if you’re unaware) the US tore itself apart while the UK kept some semblance of order through authoritarianism. So, feels half right? We’re tearing ourselves apart over attempted authoritarianism.
“national security threat” == “threat to the regime we’re trying to establish”.
I saw a rumor mill style post that Apple was going to allow sideloading of apps. If so, that’ll probably get me to switch. These changes and choice in software eliminates my gripes with iOS vs. Android.
As a point of clarity, I think both suck. But if Apple removes it’s disadvantages (even if by force) and is the more privacy respecting option out of the box, it makes sense to me.
Ah, I was only vaguely aware of the writer’s strike and didn’t tie that together. It all makes sense now. Thanks for the explanation. That’s pretty shitty.
What’s the problem? Good faith question, not being disagreeable. Does he go on about struggling actors in the documentary? Oh or a famous person using their fame to their advantage?
Seconded. It will work for your Linux/Android use case and has apps for some smart TV devices, if that’s useful.
I was gonna come in with the obvious “see step 1” joke. But what if they added it to a game you paid for? That’d be some bullshit.
a not-insignificant number of users will simply abandon YouTube if this keeps up.
I regetfully disagree. I think very few people will leave the platform and that the additional revenue generated from those that use adblockers but allow YouTube ads will easily cover the difference of those that do.
I don’t say this to discourage boycotting. Fuck google, do it if you want to!
That’s how you know it’s working!
Obsfucation can help stimey scripts. I saw using a non-standard port mentioned.
You can also setup a reverse proxy to deliver a different, empty site to a different dns entry by default. Use either a completely separate (as opposed to multidomain) cert for each, or a wildcard cert.
Jellyfin also supports using a custom path, instead of delivering at the root. Your reverse proxy would need to be configured accordingly.
