Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What paid software is absolutely worth the money?
1·10 days agoScrivener is pretty damn good if you’re into writing.
For novels, screenwriting or things like DnD it’s got a corkboard with scene cards you can drag and drop around to make the story flow better.
It also has character management with little cheat sheets for notes. You can track character persona/relationships nicely.
$60, lifetime purchase with free upgrades and you can install on all your computers in your household

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Found this in an electrical box. What is this thing?
4·10 days agoI could see a use case for this…
You work in a office and keep this in your shirt pocket set to voice activation.
Good to capture any conversations to CYA in funky situations. Basically wearing a wire.

8·10 days agoYeah. I have random old laptops with fresh Linux on them for no reason. Good to have out to a friend/family or use as a air-gapped sandbox.

2·17 days agoYeah I gave up on radio customization when I got a car that didn’t have a dual bin and didn’t keep up. Looking at newer cars and barely anything can be swapped/upgraded it seems.

Technology@lemmy.world•Why Are Cars Getting Rid Of Android Auto?English
8·17 days agoYeah this is the kind of shit I was looking forward to when I got into driving in the 2000s. But then car manufacturers started doing thier own non standard radios.
Then the car mod communities made kits to for a dual bay fit.
Then the corpos made radios required to service the car…
No regulations to protect the consumers let them do what they want.
The car part of the car should be completely independent of the entertainment part of the car. Fuckers.
The line can get blurry when you talk about EVs but protections should still be possible.

9·17 days agoMy car is from the 2010s.
I bought a GPS looking screen for $40 that has android auto and carplay. I already have Bluetooth added onto the radio for audio streaming.
Works perfectly for GPS off of my phone and as a media controller.
Only thing I’m missing is steering wheel controls.

I love this idea haha
Holy crap. This is what I was thinking of when I asked Lemmy hahaha
No UPS?
Do you track your outages to get your metric of 46 or is it just a random number?

Last game I enjoyed playing back then was Gears games with a premade squad on private chat.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Have you ever had premonition, a sixth sense, a third man, or inner voice that saved you?
9·1 month agoBest I got is trusting my gut feeling.
15 years ago we had a blizzard.
I’m driving a company car on a highway.
My boss called me telling me I can go home for the day.
I’m younger and dumb so I tell him I know how to drive so I’m going to finish my last stop first.
Going 60mph in the slow lane. Barely any cars. Then I see a cluster of five cars going 80mph~ (15 over the limit like people normally do) while tailgating each other.
My Spidey sense freaks out. I lay off the accelerator and just slow all the way down to 40 and let them pass. Don’t wanna be near them at all.
Once they’re about 200(?) yards ahead of me all of them hit the brakes. Front car slides rotating 90° and gets ping ponged around in front of me Black ice
Hit my brake. Does nothing.
Start white knuckleing.
See the fast lane/brake down open.
I rotate my wheel just enough to start a turn and clear them just in time. All five hit each other or the walls.Holy shit I’m glad I listened to my gut
Even if you think you know how to drive. Fucking idiots can still kill you.

I have this but also visual voicemail. So I still never listen to voices unless the transcript bugged out
