That’s wild. Did you need a special program to parse stuff out of the data stream? I guess it would mostly come in as http reaponses, so it wouldn’t be too hard, but still an interesting problem.
Just to mention, Fennec’s F-droid page does list the following as an anti-feature:

It does say that telemetry has been removed, but that it still connects to services (like Firefox Sync, for example) which could still potentially be used to track you.
That’s not a dealbreaker for me personally, but if it bothers anyone else, it seems like Mull might be the more privacy conscious choice, at the cost of some convenience features.
Ahh, cool! Good to know. I just checked that 0day, and they’re both JS exploits (which I imagine most probably are), so NoScript will probably protect me unless some of my trusted domains get compromised. It’s not ideal, but it’s within my comfort tolerance.

Yeah, the high end 9 series are (were) great. I’m still using my S9+ and just don’t have any good reason to “upgrade”. I don’t intend to get a phone that doesn’t have a headphone jack and memory card slot.
I do kinda miss having a stylus, though, having come from the Note 4 previously.
FOSS apps are generally more secure due to auditability of the source. Many eyes, and all that. Although I’m sure there’s also reduced interest from attackers on smaller platforms.
Also, malware devs would have the additional constraint of having to either open source their malware, which they probably don’t want to do, or sideload their payload, which is more work for them.
From the picture, yes, Google Play is indeed malware. F-Droid is the way.
Nova is great, but you have to turn off auto-updates and use version 7.0.57 which is the last version before the rug pull.
Backblaze regularly releases failure rate statistics of their drives, and it’s often a big enough dataset to be quite meaningful. I haven’t been keeping up with it lately, but there certainly was a period of time where there were substantial differences in the failure rates of different manufacturers.
So while you do still need to have drive failure mitigation strategies, buying more reliable devices can definitely save you time and headache in the future by having to deal with failures less frequently.

Alternatively, https://pairdrop.net/ is the same idea (I assume) but runs entirely in your browser which is kinda cool.
One minor caveat where CPU could matter is AVX support. I couldn’t get ollama to run well on my system, despite having a decent GPU, because I’m using an ancient processor.

Might also want to make an image of the device with dd if=/dev/DEVICE-NAME conv=sync,noerror bs=128K > sd_card.img first. It’s often a good practice to make a raw backup before doing anything that changes the device.

Here’s my mildly diplomatic answer that’d probably get tossed:
Piracy has become a plague on our society, but there’s a more sinister cause to it. The average labourer can hardly afford to pay the same fee to access culture that the wealthy person can, and this has caused a significant and justified uptick in piracy.
This situation can be averted by increasing minimum wages and supporting universal basic income. If everyone knew they could at least make ends meet, they’d have some left over to pay for the culture that mattered to them.

I did submit a bug report, but the dev didn’t seem interested in getting the apk for testing. I can’t say I blame them. Apk sites are a little sketchy, and it’s also probably not a bug that’ll affect many other people.
It’s called Kii. You can still get a version from a 3rd party site since it hasn’t been on the play store for years.
