You can delete or disable the service that creates those stories. Download Shizuku and activate it, then use Canta to delete it.
I never block anyone or any instance. I simply ignore them. I also use the subscribed feed, so what most of the people say about hexbear, lemmygrad, etc. content filling their feed also does not affect me.
That’s what uBlock Origin planned to do if YouTube ever decided to etch ads into the video stream itself.
I was just given a computer with unrestricted internet access and learnt it that way. Of course, the internet being unrestricted made me visit some questionable and illegal websites. Including CP and some hardcore NSFL using the tor browser. But I don’t regret it (other than the last points).
Yeah, tell them that when they were trying to deanonymize tor users
No. It’s for privacy. If they don’t support anonymous payments, there’s literally no reason to host a .onion site just to fool people. I’d say that’s a big red flag from a “privacy respecting” company.
Yeah who cares. They got caught tracking and that is still a fact.
Looks like a fun community, I’ll join.
They only realized that when he said that? What a weird infosec team. I guess they also could use SimpleX if they wanted the most secure, private and anonymous option, but I think Signal is pretty well balanced as a messenger. Good privacy and usability.
XMPP could have been great if it weren’t left to die. The clients look like from the 2000s and encryption is a mess to set up. We instead have Matrix, which is pretty resource intensive to run and has its own problems but it practically functions like XMPP.
Surprised that happened. Very rare to see that these days.
Alright. You do you, pal.
That strikes me as a terrible idea given what some people search on the web. I have also never run a TOR exit node.
It is somewhat like a TOR exit node indeed. Though you can easily prove your innocence by saying that you did not make these searches but that you merely run a meta search engine that helps others protect their privacy. Even the TOR project has templates for exit nodes to submit them to the government or whoever is contacting them in those cases.

The instance’s IP
Long brainstorming sessions on how to implement my next Lemmy bot.
SearXNG is a meta search engine, which means it gets the search results from other search engines (Google, Bing, Qwant, etc.) and show them to you. It acts a proxy, thus hiding the users IP. This means Google can’t target ads based on your IP and also can’t make a profile about you.
I am not so sure about that. DDG has been caught tracking before. I wouldn’t trust them. They are also getting into AI bs.
