I used to just disable the built-in YouTube and then set Vanced as the URL handler for YouTube URLs, and then they’d open in Vanced. Maybe that doesn’t work on every Android variant?
With root, YouTube URLs will open in the app by default. Without root, they won’t. Otherwise, there’s not a huge difference.
