Fediverse@lemmy.world•How to get people to use Mastodon?English
4·9 months agoMy understanding is, in the early days, you could send an SMS to Twitter to post, so the limitation was imposed by SMS and not necessarily Twitter.
No. The twitter were build with the limit in mind, in fact it is its whole spiel.
Why? It’s not thar deep.
-
It games the attention span of viewers. You can read 3-4 articles before getting tired or going about your day, but you can guzzle infinite number of twits, because they are small, engaging and various
-
It not only games the viewers but posters too. Maybe you want to write an article, or blog post, but you know it’s going to be long. So you better do it on the weekend. Or when you have more time. Which for many is never. But writing a couple sentences? Easy! You can do it on a bus! You can do it on the toilet! And, if everyone is on the same level as you, you don’t feel bad for keeping it short.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How do language flags work in Lemmy?
2·11 months agoWell, If you de-select one language (while have others selected) you’re not going to see it.
But! If you de-select all of them it counts as “No preference” and allows you to see all posts with all languages.
It kinda is counterintuitive, but it works :)

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How do language flags work in Lemmy?
1·11 months agoI have quite the opposite: I have every language de-selected, so I can see all of them without any filtering occurring

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How much of a game changer was USB-C for you, compared to other cables?
4·1 year agoIt’s even more annoying that there are different possible pinouts in the port itself without clear labling. So always use the one cable that came with the peripheral, or you have a chance to fry it

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are some valid criticisms of Lemmy do you hear from people who tried out the platform?
11·1 year agoTo be fair it kinda is a bad part of even real world communities. Try going to a biker bar, animecon or any other community and saying “Gosh darn I don’t like ____”. Best case people would look at you funny and leave, worst - you getting a knuckle sandwich

Happy cake day!!
