That is an interesting thought experiment in general but I don’t think it really squares with Christian theology and the central role humanity has in it.

Yep years ago I was in a bible study, well on my way to being an agnostic already. They were going over a difficult passage and the conclusion was ‘god works in mysterious ways’. Not that I hadn’t heard that nonsense before but for some reason hearing it in that scenario was the last straw and I never went back.
I don’t think we know enough about the universe yet to be sure that cause/effect is 100% the be all end all. It sure seems like it is from where we’re standing now though, that’s for sure.
Absolutely agreed - and to make matters worse, their clearly stated goals ultimately amount to replacing all of us with their AI. This deal just keeps getting better, doesn’t it?
I also think it’s really rich that at the same time they’re whining about copyright they’re trying to go private. I feel like the ‘Open’ part of OpenAI is the only thing that could possibly begin to offset their rampant theft and even then they’re not nearly open enough.
I had an Amazon seller offer to send me a gift card if I changed my review so I said I would take the card but would probably only change my review to note the gift card offer.
Why? It’s a win/win for all the same reasons the UK should have never left.
But I just want to sing
Sooooo we built another one
Why that one though? Just because it’s more ‘official’ as the devs instance?

Fortunately/unfortunately for us the CIA is in the middle of their own coup and probably doesn’t have time for meddling right now
100% this. Wouldn’t it be something if they weren’t overtly running their companies to replace all of us? If feel like focusing instead on creating great personal assistants that make our lives easier in various ways would get a lot of support from the public.
And don’t get me wrong, these LLMs are great at helping people already but that’s definitely not the obvious end goal of OpenAI or any of the others.
Almost seems like they’re afraid of us or something
Agree and disagree. There is a place for sophisticated management tools but when they stop getting supported or they’re purchase by a company you hate, you’re left scrambling to convert everything.
Best case for me anyway are sophisticated tools that use markdown as the basis of their files like Obsidian. So I know if they disappear I still have all my data in a universal format without any effort on my end.
I don’t know anything about this ‘death note’. All I know is that people drown in their own bath tubs every day. Even rich and powerful people.
It was also an authoritarian dictatorship with about as many scruples as the Nazi regime. People seem to forget that saying simply ‘socialism’ ignores the other half of the equation altogether.
xx_Pelosi420_xx doesn’t settle for incremental upgrades
Buying your competitors is a pretty monopolistic practice
