Did you miss the “autoplay and highly personalised recommender system”? Those are the two big major differences and what makes people so addicted to tiktok etc. in a much worse way than forums in all forms (like reddit and lemmy). Reddit and Lemmy doesn’t have any thing that curates what you see based on your habits, that’s done by yourself or not at all.

That really doesn’t fit here IMO. It took decades of bullshit, law breaking, blatant spying, hostile persuasion etc. of US IT being forced onto the world, and without Trump and the fucking nightmare circus that’s going on this wouldn’t have happened. The world would have kept bending the knee and even inviting all of it forever, it took THIS MUCH to get the world to take a step back and realise that this isn’t a good thing.

I don’t see how few comments is a bad thing? Do you really sit and scroll through the vile idiocy that is tiktok comments? Nowhere does more comments etc. mean it’s better. If anything less people is good.

Not at all, it’s mostly due to how easy it is to fake now. There are still lots of sightings, especially of UFOs but very rarely do they go “viral”. And the vast majority are pretty easily explained which happens a ton with both new and old ones. But then there are others where all we can do is go “huh, that’s weird”.
I’m far from a conspiracist but there are things that are just so odd that it’s hard to explain. Doesn’t mean it’s aliens though, obviously. And as we can’t just go back in time to discover what it was there’s nothing to do about it.

Imagine if it did and the only reason it was censored was because they did a search and find > TRUMP > Make selected text background black.

The original is better because no higher resolution version actually looks like the original. It’s so weird, it’s not hars at all to make a higher res one that’s almost identical to the original yet all the ones I’ve seen just look like shit. I’m gonna take some time tomorrow and make a high resolution version with the details correct.

There are two things that the Internet has taught me: the incredible creativity people have about absolutely everything and the unimaginable levels of stupidity that people have about absolutely everything. Sometimes one of those things only exist because of the other, and that’s hard to process.

It absolutely hit world headlines way before you commented… I had seen it multiple times from several sources before this thread was made. From local (I’m Swedish) news, global news (grounded and kagi news), youtube and mastodon (links to MSM articles about it).

The tram I was on with my dad and little sister struck a woman, she had an umbrella open so she didn’t see the tram (it was a sunny summer day). It cracked her head open and I’ll never forget that sound. The driver panicked and only opened the front door of the tram, right where the woman was laying on the ground, so we were forced to walk out of the tram and jump over the pool of blood gushing from her head. My dad tried to make us not look but I saw the hole in her head, and her brain. I was 10 and my sister 8.
She died on the way to the hospital.
And I just realised I now live in the apartment building right by the tram tracks where it happened, haven’t thought about that memory for a long time.

It’s not like they come with warranties or some magical immediate money back guarantee. And I doubt they wanted this to be a long term thing, they made their money already and anything happening post that has no effect on that. Money made, that’s it, the people can burn for all they care.
