  • I’m in NZ. Theoretically we’re listed as each other’s primary emergency contacts, so that shouldn’t be an issue. I just hope we never have to find out.

As for children, property etc. NZ has this idea of a defacto relationship, which you can enter into either by living together for 2 years, or by having a child together. It offers the same protections that marriage does. I think it gets a bit greyer if you just have a child together, but living together for 2 years is as good as a marriage in this regard.

Where it matters the most is if one of us passes away, but that can be negated through a will.

It could matter if we ever decided to move out of the country, but I don’t see us doing that in a hurry. We’ll cross that bridge if we ever get to it

  • Marriage is a big ceremony where you declare that this person is now your family in front of the people most important to you. From that angle I’m on board.

Where I’m out is that you have to register that with the govt. I HATE that. I’m in a het relationship, and gay marriage is legal here, so I have no idea why that irks me so much, but it’s like, who the fuck are they to tell me my marriage isn’t real because it’s not registered with them?

Here there aren’t even any good tax benefits, so I really don’t see the point.

We’ll probably have a ceremony, but it won’t be a legal marriage.

  • No, you’ve gone too far in the other direction now. The protests can work. Your other comments show that you seem to think it has to be all or nothing, but Just because it’s not bankrupting Bezos in one fell swoop, doesn’t mean it’s pointless. If we even make a dent in their metrics, they’ll notice.

My issue here is that everyone seems to be misinterpreting me as whining about not wanting to participate because I’m gonna miss my show. When what I actually said, in effect, was “Damn, I’m gonna miss my show. Oh well.”

The fuck is wrong with the threadiverse today, gods damn!

  • No, you come on. You’re are misrepresenting what I actually said. If you actually read my post, you’ll see that I plan to participate in the boycott regardless. I made a throwaway comment about how it would be “mildly inconvenient” that I’d miss the opening, but also that I would do it regardless.

So what, I’m not even allowed to acknowledge that Prime has stuff I’m interested in? I have to boycott it, and deny that it holds any value whatsoever?

That’s bullshit. It’s entirely possible to both acknowledge that there are decent Amazon produced shows AND think that the company is evil as fuck and want to boycott them.

  • re: The warning/grammer checking system.

What you’re describing is called a linter, and they’ve existed for ages.

The only way I can really think of to improve them would be to give them a full understanding of your codebase as a whole, which would require a deeper understanding than current gen AI is capable of. There might be some marginal improvements possible with current gen, but it’s not going to be groundbreaking.

What I have found AI very useful for is basic repetitive stuff that isn’t easily automated in other ways or that I simply can’t be bothered to write again. eg: “Given this data model, generate a validated CRUD form” or “write a bash script that renames all the files in a folder to follow this pattern”

You still need to check what it produces though because it will happily hallucinate parameters that don’t exist, or entire validation libraries that don’t exist, but it’s usually close enough to be used as a starting point.

  • What? I respectfully disagree. The reason I struggled to stay on Pixelfed, and recently Loops too, is because as a new user all I was seeing was classical art, and landscapes (and the odd weirdo) but nothing actually entertaining. Loops at least has people copying stuff from TikTok. I’m not condoning that behaviour, I’m just saying as a casual new user, that was pretty much the most compelling content.

Maybe I was doing it wrong, but IMHO the content creators are the core of any social media. Pixelfed and Loops will both live or die by the creators they attract

ETA: I love weirdos by the way, that wasn’t meant as a negative. If anything, more please!
